About Sue

My painting journey began as a teenager with oils and ‘poster paints’. I have painted in most mediums, including acrylics and on-glaze bone china and porcelain. My favourite medium these days is watercolour, particularly transparent pigment as I love its freshness and vibrancy. I enjoy ‘traditional’ landscape scenes but I’m also very interested in creating pattern and textural effects and experimenting with semi-abstract themes. My favourite subjects are landscape, dancers, flowers and animals. I have exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the Artist and Leisure Painter Magazine Competition and many others. In 2021 I achieved a Rising Star Award in the International Watercolour Masters Event, UK and in 2022 and 2023 I have again been awarded as a Top 200 Artist out of around 3,000 entrants in the same event.  My paintings have represented England in the FabrianoinAcquarello international festival for the last four years. I have write articles for the Leisure Painter magazine.  I am a fully qualified teacher and I tutor watercolour and mixed media classes, workshops and painting holidays and retreats in the U.K. and Europe. Please browse and I hope you enjoy my website. Many thanks for looking in!

It’s been a crazy few months. There have been rejections as usual from the major British and U.S. watercolour societies but four major successes. I have had finalist paintings in four major competitions. 1. The International Watercolour Masters(Tarr Steps, Exmoor. Landscape Painting).2. FabrianoinAcquarello International Exhibition, for the England and Wales Team (Carnival Masks, Venice).3. IMWA ‘The Americas’ competition (Iguazu Falls).4. ‘Step-by-Step’ competition/conference, Gdańsk, Poland (Glencoe in Autumn landscape). Also 2 paintings finalist/published in the Art of Watercolour Magazine Spring Scene competition (Spring Walk in Kelsey Park and Emmetts’ Garden Bluebells) and my third arrival in the Leisure Painter magazine (granulation in watercolour). It gives a much needed boost!#internationalwatercolourmasters #fabrianoinacquarello #theartofwatercolourmagazine #theartistandleisurepainter #theartistandleisurepaintermagazines #imwa #stepbystepwatercolourcompetition #danielsmithwatercolors #jackmansartmaterials #schminckehoradam ...
