About Sue

My painting journey began as a teenager with oils and ‘poster paints’. I have painted in most mediums, including acrylics and on-glaze bone china and porcelain. My favourite medium these days is watercolour, particularly transparent colour as I love its freshness and vibrancy. I enjoy ‘traditional’ landscape scenes but I’m also very interested in creating pattern and textural effects and experimenting with semi-abstract themes. My favourite subjects are landscape, flowers and animals.

Today’s workshop, line and wash. We started by using line and wash as a quick plein air sketching tool, explored dip pen and ink, markers and hot pressed vs cold pressed paper. We then did a more architectural piece of work with line, cross hatching and other marks for tonal variation and loose/tighter washes. We finished off with the use of a watersoluble ink pen and water brush to achieve a quick tonal sketch, useful for collecting very quick information when out and about as a study for a painting at home or in the studio. A busy day! ... See MoreSee Less
